But Bacon

“But bacon!” was the mic drop

The end of having to feel,

the instant end to imagining

the suffering in a meal

How easy to dismiss

the pain, the cries, the fear,

when all we need to block it out

is bacon to appear

How simplistic are our morals?

How little do we care?

If nothing else determines

who we eat and wear

You watched the slaughter footage,

tears falling from your head,

but then you quickly smiled,

“But bacon!” was all you said
