Angry Cow Poetry
Keith Allison is a father, educator, public speaker, event host, video editor, poet, and spoken word artist. He uses poetry to express his hopes for a more just and compassionate world for humans and nonhumans alike, and to vent his frustrations when we seem so far from accomplishing that goal.
He curates and hosts a monthly spoken word event at the Rialto Theatre in Akron, Angry Cow Poetry at the Rialto Living Room, with a featured spoken word artist and an open mic. Every first Wednesday of the month.
He has authored three books, What if the Shoe Were on the Other Hoof?, Screaming with My Indoor Voice, and, his latest, Continuity Flaws. He also recently released his first spoken word album, Moo, Motherfucker.
His poetry has also been published in collections by The Literary Parrot, Poetry is Life Publishing, Trouvaille Review, and Writing Knights Press.
Keith has been a featured performer at the Boom Boom Room, Blumenthal Performing Arts’ Booth Playhouse, The Center, Ingenuity Fest, Makeshift Makerplace, Ms. Julie’s Kitchen, Nine Eighteen Nine Studio Gallery, the Outpost, the Rialto Theatre, Studio 229 on Brevard, the Unitarian Universalist Society of Cleveland, Visible Voice Books, and more. He has been featured by Big Love, the Cleveland Animal Rights Alliance, Cleveland VegFest, Kenmore Public Library, Massillon Public Library, Parrot TV’s The Literary Corner, Our Hen House, Poetic Nights, Temple of Passions, Triangle VegFest, Trust Books, and Writing Knights.
Keith has made music and poetry videos for a number of artists and produces and edits an ongoing video poetry collection, Outdoor Voices in an Indoor World, that brings together many amazing poetic voices.
He has received five nominations from the Highland Square Film Fest. He won Best Micro Film at the New York Tri-State International Film Festival for “Death by a Salesman.” He has had official selections in the Brooklyn International Short Awards, International Vegan Film Festival, Monologues & Poetry International Film Fest, Roma Short Film Festival, and S.O.F.A Film Festival.
Years ago, for Writing Knights’ sWord Fight Competitions, where poets battled with words, Keith took on the character of the Angry Cow, in costume, to shed some bitter truth on the happy cow myth. The name stuck and lends itself to the work he now publishes in print and video, as an author, producer, and video editor.
