The Less Peaceful View From the Other Side of the Line

Swimming,

because that is what I do

That is who I am,

a fish

A worm dangles

in front of my eyes

My stomach is empty,

I gulp

A stinging pain

rips through my body

Metal has pierced my flesh,

a hook

I swim away

in fear, in fright

But it is no use,

I cannot escape

Yanked,

my body pulled

towards the surface,

then out

Into the sky

I cannot breathe

I try to scream,

but I cannot

I’m pulled towards

two men,

one big, one small

They smile and laugh

“Isn’t this fun?”

the father says to his son

It is the last thing I hear

as I suffocate
