Looking Away While We Chew

Animal suffering

is the root of our diet,

no matter how much

we try to deny it

We say that we care -

well, some of us do -

but most of us just

look away while we chew

The thought of their bleeding

isn’t as fun

as this double cheeseburger

wrapped in a bun

So we ignore their pain,

their cries, their sorrow,

because we will still

want to eat them tomorrow
