Hypothetically Speaking

If I were, hypothetically, president of the United States and not racist or homophobic, and hate crimes and intimidation were being carried out in my name and had increased since my election, I would use my voice to make it clear that this was not okay, this did not speak for me, and this was not who we are as a nation.

Alternately, if I were - again, hypothetically - president of the United States and, in fact, racist and homophobic and relied on a large number of racist and homophobic votes, and these hates crimes were being committed in my name, I guess I'd stay silent. Or mock climate change. Or brag about my excellent spelling. Or use the old "very fine people on both sides" line.
